Krabi is the gateway to some of Southeast Asia's most cinematic scenery: vertical limestone towers rising from turquoise shallows, quiet islands reachable by longtail boat, and beaches that regularly top global travel lists. It has a quieter, more relaxed character than Phuket despite being just 180 km to the north. Ao Nang is the mainland hub — accessible by road, with direct beach access and a walkable strip of restaurants, dive operators, and island tour desks. Railay Beach, reachable only by boat even though it is technically part of the mainland, is one of Thailand's great beach escapes — rock climbing, longtail arrivals, and almost no motorbikes. Ko Lanta, a 90-minute ferry from Krabi Town, rewards those who want longer, less-crowded beach stretches. The dry season runs November to April; the Andaman coast becomes rough from June to October and many resorts reduce services or close entirely during the monsoon peak.
