Koh Samui is Thailand's most developed island outside Phuket — and the most accessible. Its own international airport means you can land and be floating in a rooftop pool within 30 minutes. Coconut-lined beaches, tropical waterfalls, a thriving food scene, and a ring road that links every corner of the island make it work equally well for families, couples, and solo travellers. Chaweng Beach is the island's social centre — buzzy, convenient, and well-stocked with restaurants, beach clubs, and nightlife. Bophut's Fisherman's Village offers boutique charm and the weekly Friday Walking Street. Lamai has good budget options and a livelier local feel. For the quietest experience, the north coast (Maenam, Bo Phut) and the remote south hide Samui's best adults-only hideaways and hillside infinity pool villas. Peak season runs December to March; book top resorts well in advance during Christmas and New Year.
